I grew up in Nashua, New Hampshire but it was on a family trip to Alaska when I was introduced to photography. I didn’t know it then, but that trip was the foundation for my love of image creation. I graduated from Ithaca College with a degree in cinema and photography and moved to Los Angeles where I’ve been living ever since.
My first professional days with a camera on my shoulder came in the form of documentary work and I can’t think of a better environment to have cut my teeth in. It forced me to learn how to create quality images with little time, budget, and equipment. It teaches you to think on your feet. A skill that has benefited me countless times.
Since those early days I’ve gone on to DP projects in the documentary, brand content, music video, and narrative worlds and have been fortunate to work with brands, production companies and agencies including: Apple, Burger King, Domino’s Pizza, Sony, Geico, Universal, Netflix, Nine West, Deutsch, Mass Appeal, and more. In January 2019 the feature-length documentary THE WIZRD, chronicling rap super-star Future, releases.
Regardless of the project, budget, or any of the other myriad of factors that affect every production, I gravitate towards the same core filmmaking beliefs.
1) Simplest is usually best.
2) Story always comes first. The visuals must serve the story and not detract or distract from it.
3) Filmmaking is a team sport. Good communication and collaboration lead to the smoothest and most enjoyable production experiences for all.
I look forward to continuing my relationships with frequent collaborators and meeting new creative people to tell stories with. We truly have the best job on the planet.
